A week in Denmark
From April 22nd to 25th, our students had the opportunity to take part in an unforgettable Erasmus exchange in Esbjerg, Denmark. The visit focused on sustainability and climate action, helping students to work together while developing environmental awareness.
After a long trip by plane and train (with almost no incidents!), the adventure officially began on Tuesday evening with a very warm welcome from our Danish host families at Esbjerg Station.
On Wednesday, we visited Verdensmålshuset Genin, a non-profit organisation that teaches young people about the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. We took part in a very interesting workshop where students had to imagine how to make a small Danish island more sustainable. Working in teams and managing a set budget, they had to find solutions for energy, waste management, transport and other basic needs of a community.
Thursday was a special day because it was Denmark’s National Climate Action Day. We visited Bryndum Skole, our host school, and discovered how the SDGs are part of their daily life. One of the most inspiring projects we saw was their second-hand clothes shop, run by the students themselves to promote sustainable consumption. After that, we enjoyed a volleyball tournament and finished the day with a big international dinner, where Danish and Spanish students cooked and shared traditional dishes from both countries.
On Friday, we attended the school’s morning assembly, where we sang songs together with the younger students. We also had the opportunity to learn about maritime safety and sustainability during a talk given by ESVAGT, a leading company in offshore wind support and solutions.
The trip concluded with a long journey back home, filled with travel challenges such as delays, missing documents and some unexpected situations. Even though it was a bit stressful at times, every problem taught us something new. It reminded us that an Erasmus exchange is not just about studying abroad but also about facing real-life situations, adapting and growing together!
We are extremely grateful to our Danish hosts for making this journey such an unforgettable and inspiring experience. We’re already looking forward to our next Erasmus exchange with them!
